Arnold Newman (1918-2006) is acknowledged as one of the great masters of the 20th and 21st centuries and his work has changed the photographic portrait. Recognized as the ‘Father of Environmental Portraiture’, his work is collected and exhibited in major museums and collections around the world. Hugely influenced by early photographers like Alfred Stieglitz and the school of modernism, Newman developed a unique visual style and technique. His portraits at once speak to his talent as a photographer and unparalleled ability to capture the personality of his subjects.
With a career spanning 60 years his body of work reads as a roll call of the biggest names of the Twentieth Century such as Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Marcel Duchamp, Igor Stravinsky, Jackson Pollock, Salvador Dali, Alexander Calder, Ayn Rand, Langston Hughes, Martha Graham, Man Ray, Leonard Bernstein, Georgia O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol, John F.
